Our Story

Once upon a time (for all great tales tend to begin this way), there lived in Vancouver a brother and a sister from Mexico, who longed for nothing else but a good story.  They met with two amazing artists who could bring stories to life through the magic of animation. this was the beginning of what would become Metzi.

The idea for Metzi came initially from a short story that the siblings, Fer and Ed would tell their younger sisters, about a girl who had lost her bellybutton and had to go on a quest to replace it. this silly story, based on common fairytale tropes and stereotypes would initiate a desire to work together and begin a studio dedicated to art and animation as a vehicle to retell fables and fairytales. The name Metzi came from the Nahua word for moon, as a nod to the tale of the rabbit on the moon that is present in Mexican folklore. Fer and Ed together with Abby and Marty (our awesome animators) and Frida are all excited to welcome you to this storybook world of ours, we hope you have a good time.
